Jared Kincaid a.k.a The Hellhound

Background

Few people know the origin of the hired warrior and assassin who now calls himself Jared Kincaid, and those who know aren't telling. What is known is that he is a paid assassin for hire most often to be found in the employ of The Archive as her driver and bodyguard, more lately simply her bodyguard as she comes to the age when she can legally drive. He has been in the employ of this Archive for most of her life, and before that was associated with her grandmother.

Prior to that the mercenary's record is spotty, but it is known that he previously worked for the beast Vlad Dracul, father of Vlad Tepes. He was a vicious and bloody fighter, a tenacious hunter, earning the nickname Hound of Hell or simply, the Hellhound. He is a Scion, the product of a human-demon breeding, though he appears to all mundane sight to be human.

He does not use magic himself but is well-versed in the habits of magic users and the laws of magic, exploiting them to suit his own needs. He is ruthlessly practical and if it seems expedient is as likely to take out a magic-user with a sniper rifle as with a more conventional (for magic-users) hand to hand weapon. He prefers the maximum amount of gain for the minimum amount of effort or risk, which is not to say that he won't expend the effort necessary to get the job done. He is efficient, swift, and very very clever.

At the moment Kincaid's strongest ties are to the Archive, whom he trusts and cares for, although the latter is very, very seldom evident in his thoughts, words, or deeds. It came out only once, when the Archive was kidnapped by the Fallen Denariians, how protective he is of her and how insistent that she not be alone. Beyond that he has affection for the police detective Karrin Murphy, and amused respect for now-Warden Harry Dresden.

Fanon History

Jared Kincaid, or the creature now calling himself such, was born nearly a thousand years ago to a demon who abandoned him in the snow and the cold because he too much resembled his human father. That same demon who bore the demon Grendel and later was slain by the hero Beowulf, although he did not find that out until later and still doesn't know it for certain, only that the time and places correspond. He could ask the Archive, but he isn't sure he wants to know.

He met the Archive four or five centuries ago, in a burned-out town in what is now Brussels. Although he did not know who or what she was at the time he encountered her again later, and over the past two centuries has formed a strong bond with both the women and the construct. Two of them have taken to bed with him, one brief fling during the Roaring Twenties and one slightly longer affair previous to that.
